Scarf. The history of the origin of the accessory.
A scarf is not only a warm accessory that we need for warming in winter, but also a fashion accessory that emphasizes our own style and completes the look. Several centuries ago, the scarf, which is customary in our day, was not associated with fashion and used it for a completely different purpose.
The origin of the scarf
There is no reliable information about where and when the scarf first appeared. Some sources claim that the scarf was worn in the Roman Empire, others say that as early as 1350 BC, Queen Nefertiti wore a scarf over her headdress. But it is safe to say that China played a huge role in the history of the scarf.
In 1000 BC, the Chinese wore rectangular scarves with a fringe around their necks, this is confirmed by numerous sculptures of that era. The ancient Chinese warriors used scarves for practical purposes: they tied a neck with a piece of cloth to protect themselves from the cold and wind. This is evidenced by the monumental burial discovered in 1974, during the reign of Chinese emperor Qin Shi Huang Di. In this tomb were found figures of 7500 warriors on the necks of which were scarves.
There is documentary evidence that in the tenth century AD, the Romans wore scarves. They tied scarves around the neck, to protect the throat from the cold, and also put it under armor in battles. In this way, they tried to hide from the unusual cold during the campaigns in Gaul and Germany.
Scarf as a point of difference
Over time, the scarf began to undergo changes. For the manufacture of the accessory began to use various materials: from warm and practical to air and light. Gradually, the scarf becomes the subject of distinction in many countries, as in Ancient Egypt scarves were used as an indicator of authority and social status. The Roman Empire also adopted the tradition of silk scarves. They wore an accessory at the waist or neck as well as a sign of social status in society. Louis IV, who loved delights in fashion, turned the cravat not only into an elegant and beautiful accessory, but also made him a sign of belonging to the nobility. Much later, Peter I also began to use the scarf as a social distinction between officers and soldiers, introducing this accessory into army uniforms. Thus, the scarf was used as a distinction sign of the nobility.
In the 19th century, scarves became a very popular accessory, and many fashion houses began to produce their own models, which later became iconic. Scarves and shawls were made of silk with a catchy print. In 1837, the French house Hermès became one of the industry leaders, who began to produce the famous silk shawls. The British Queen Victoria also played a role in the development of demand for scarves - the scarf became her favorite accessory. Then he became a sign of belonging to a particular social class, everything depended on the material from which it was made.
Incredible popularity in the world of fashion scarf acquired in the 20th century and created a real sensation among fashionistas. The scarf was used in various forms and forms, decorating the most daring and elegant female images. The development of fashion contributed to the famous actress, dancer, singer, who became a kind of legislators of this fashion. In the new millennium, the scarf has become a practical fashion accessory, the variety of which never ceases to amaze. Scarves have ceased to be just a means of protection from the cold, and have become fashionable accessories that add a highlight to the image, both for women and men.
